This is a simple FAQ page I decided to set up regarding the "hide stash" and the resource document. Refer to it if you need help.

- When did this start?Months ago after I had posted in the r/XJapan subreddit about my scans on tumblr. Someone suggested uploading stuff to a Google Drive, so here we are.- How did you get into X?SakuraStardust made a video about "Japan's Most Controversial Band" and I was hooked almost instantly. It opened me to a whole world I didn't even know existed before, and most of all it introduced me to hide. ♥- What about [band name]?! Where are they?I don't have an interest in doing something like this for other bands, but if you have the time and energy to do something like I'm doing for a band you like, then go for it! X and hide are just special to me, so the focus is on them.- Why even bother doing all of this?As someone who is neurodivergent, one of my many hyperfixations is the preservation of media, specifically online media. I would compare what I'm doing with all of these archived fansites to what Archive of Our Own does with preserving doomed fandom-specific fanfiction websites and integrating them into their archives (except wayback has done the preservation part for me). When I was a new fan getting into hide and X in 2022, there wasn't very many places to turn to for information. It took me quite awhile to get acquainted to the band, learn who they all were, what their history was like, and ultimately find a space to yap about said band. There are working fansites out there, sure, but they either haven't updated in a long time and/or they just don't tell you where stuff is. It's frustrating and I ultimately want to change that if I can.- Where's your fansite then?Making a website is time consuming...I have snagged a url on NeoCities though, so maybe something will come out of it.- Why are some scans missing/incomplete in the drive? Its not something I mean to do, but my focus is pretty bad and I end up getting burnt out from scanning after a certain point. I try not to do it constantly and I'm always scanning different items in my collection so I'm not stuck on one singular thing. This is why some folders don't have complete scans because I kinda skip around what I want to scan and what I don't want to touch at the moment. Also, I think my scanner dislikes me at times because I once was scanning all of the spines of the CDs from the PERFECT SINGLE BOX and they accidentally hit the glass a little too hard, so now the scanner picks random times to jam and fuck up the scans (or the program crashes and I lose all of my progress). 😅- Why isn't [site name] included in the resource document? There's many reasons for that if you're referring to fansites specifically. Wayback Machine is the final resting place for many offline websites, but unfortunately some are saved way too late and therefore either have extremely broken assets or their error pages are what's left of them. I do try my best to include both sites that seem fun and are informative, but not all of them make the cut due to said issues. A good example would be Pink Mars, which appeared to be a Japanese hide fansite, however its specific website provider is excluded from the Wayback Machine, therefore making it lost forever. A sad sight, yes, but fortunately it isn't too terribly common!- Are you affiliated with anyone?Nope. This is a one person project really (but I wouldn't be against having an extra hand or two).- What happened to the clips folder? As of 6/19/25, I can no longer host most videos on the drive due to getting some sudden DCMA strikes. I do not consider the drive to be widespread so I don't understand how it happened. I now have a list in both hide's and X's clip folders that details every video I have on my computer and on hand.- I visited a Japanese webpage listed on the document, but I can't read anything!Oh no! We can fix that rather easily, don't worry. I'm not sure if this works with other browsers, but if you're using Firefox, first hit the ALT key on your keyboard while in the browser and this should make a bar appear at the top of your window. Go to "view" and click on "repair text encoding". This will reload the page and make everything into the language it should be!- How do I use the Winamp skins located in the old web folder? All you have to do with them is download the zip, but do NOT unzip it! You can use Webamp to test them out by clicking the little sideways hourglass on the upper left corner of the player and mousing over "skins". You will then find where you saved the zip file and select it, and its appearance will change!- How do I get those graphics used on the resource document?Go to the "hide stash" and click on the folder titled "old web"! There's a lot of stuff saved there that I managed to dig up from different websites. Have fun!- Hey I have something to add to the document!Cool! You can contact me via the links located at the bottom of the resource document (or on discord, that's listed too) and I will get back to you asap!
